There’s nothing quite like a summer sunset. Tinged with toasty tones of gold, bronze, and pink, sunset evokes calm and contentment. You might gaze at this breathtaking scene as you lounge on the beach, feeling warm sand on your skin while the cool surf laps at your toes…

What if you could capture the essence of a summer sunset with your makeup? The combination of glowing skin and romantic hues makes so much sense, and can be totally low maintenance. In fact, we think anyone can complete a sunset inspired makeup look in 5 minutes or less – and we’ll get to that later.

This look will employ hues of warm ochre, soft amber, and a shift of brilliant gold. You can also create effortless depth with a stroke of hazy mauve, or even a bold stroke of fuschia. Let’s talk about how to create a sunset makeup look that looks great with any skin tone, eye color, or occasion.

Creating the Look

We used all fruit pigmented® makeup to create this summer sunset look, but feel free to use whatever you already have on hand with similar shades! You’ll mainly need some warm neutrals and a few metallics for your eyes, a refreshing foundation, pink or nude lips, a bronzer and highlighter.

Step 1: Base
To set this summer makeup look up for success, start off with a clean base so that your skin looks fresh and radiant.

If you prefer a matte finish, our Fruit Pigmented® Healthy Foundation provides an airbrushed finish that stays put – even in summer heat. For a lightweight option, our Fruit Pigmented® 2nd Skin Foundation may be more your vibe. If it’s go-dewy-or-go-home, use the hydrating Fruit Pigmented® Tinted Moisturizer or illuminating BB Cream.

  • If you live and die by your makeup primer, apply that first. Some skin types, especially oily or dry, find that primers will keep makeup in place on hot summer days.

  • No matter which of the above foundations you choose, you’ll want to use a clean, damp makeup sponge to apply it. This will help pigments hug the contours of your face and result in a more seamless, natural finish.

Step 2: Eyes
Once your canvas is ready, it’s time to build the true ‘sunset’ hues in your eyes.

  • With a flat eyeshadow brush, start on the crease with shade Bunni from our Better Naked Palette. This part will be blended in a second, so don’t worry if it’s not perfect.

  • Next, load up a fluffy blending brush with shade Bear. Layer it over Bunni in the crease, blending thoroughly.

  • With a fluffy pencil brush, take our Fruit Pigmented® Eye Shadow in shade Quartz. Apply a small amount to the outer half of the crease to create depth, blending out in short, quick strokes.

  • Now take a flat eyeshadow brush and load it with our Fruit Pigmented® Eye Shadow in shade Cinnaban, lightly dabbing it over the lid below the crease.

  • At this point, you can finish off with eyeliner and mascara for a casual, everyday look. Or, you can line your lower lid with our Fruit Pigmented® Eye Shadow in shade Petal Tip for a dusky, dramatic finish.

  • If desired, complete your eye makeup look with eyeliner; we suggest either a tightline along the waterline, or a sweep of winged eyeliner. Finish with a volumizing mascara for sultry depth and definition.

Step 3: Lips
There are a few lip colors you can use for your sunset creation, and they’re all going to make a huge difference in your final look.

  • You can’t go wrong with a peachy nude lip, echoing those lazy pink clouds drifting over the horizon. We love our Fruit Pigmented® Lip Gloss in either Pink Caramel or Naked, depending on your skin tone.

  • For a more elegant evening look, a matte lipstick will contrast beautifully with this metallic, lustrous look. For this, our Fruit Pigmented® Cocoa Butter Matte Lipstick in shade Cassia: a plummy pink that’s soft as a summer breeze.

  • For a sultry shade that burns brighter than sunset’s hottest hues, give Cactus Bloom a whirl – this matte lipstick is perfect for those who love a bold touch.

Step 4: Bronze & Highlight
What would sunset be without a spectre of dancing light? Picture this: a summer sun setting over a sparkling sea. Your eyes twinkle in the warm light, your skin catching the last of the sun’s rays. Here it is, the golden hour – when bronzer and highlighter work their best magic.

  • With a fluffy powder brush, sweep your signature shade of bronzer along the hairline of your forehead, faintly guiding it to your temples.

  • Next, take the bronzer just above the hollows of your cheeks and beneath your cheekbones, and then just below your jawline.

  • Follow with a mineral highlighter along the points of your face where the light hits: the apples of your cheeks, your brow bones, the bridge of your nose, and your cupid’s bow.

  • Finish by buffing some powder or cream blush to the apples of your cheeks, or to upper cheekbones to elongate the face.

  • If you’re baring your decollete, shoulders, or legs, add a touch of All Over Glow body luminizer to complete your sunset goddess reincarnation.
