Have you been hearing the buzz for powder cleansers, but never actually used one? You’ll often find powder cleansers in spas, or at boutique skin care shops. Powder cleaners aren’t an entirely new skin care innovation. Their debut was much more underground, quietly waiting for a chance to steal the show.

Thankfully, powder cleaners are having a second go-around with the full spotlight they deserve – and we can’t wait to share the goods on these rising superstars. We’re giving you the grand tour of our new Lavender Oat Milk Soothing Cleanser and Pore Detox Herbal Cleanser formulas. Get ready skin care junkies: you’re about to meet the newest members of your routine!

Why Use a Powder Cleanser?

It’s a simple question: why powder? There are now so many different types of formulas to choose from when it comes to cleansers: gel, balm, water-based, oil-based, and now powder! Loyalty to any of the liquid cleaners is going out the window with this latest category addition of powder cleaners.

So circling back, why should you choose a powder cleanser? A powder cleanser was specifically formulated to gently exfoliate your skin while cleansing. It’s the perfect addition for anyone that wants a super customized cleansing experience. It might feel hard to switch over to an entirely new formula, when you were just getting used to a balm or oil cleanser. But we promise, it’s worth a try!

Powder cleansers are exactly what they sound like… powder. The consistency is close to the well-known baby powder, or a finely milled nut flour. Powder cleansers are amazing because anyone can customize their texture experience, based on the amount of water you add. Do you like it a little thicker, or are you into a thin consistency? Whatever you (and your skin type) prefer, a powder cleanser can adapt.

How to Use a Powder Cleanser

Now, to the burning question: how do I use a powder cleanser? Powder cleansers are meant to be stored in their powder form, and liquid is only added right before intended use. When you blend a powder cleanser with water, you’re forming a powerhouse paste that can be used to thoroughly cleanse, remove makeup and oil buildup, and gently exfoliate your skin.

Powder cleansers have the unique ability to ramp up or dial down their concentration, based on how much water is added. If you’re still a little stumped, here’s a quick step-by-step on how to use a powder cleanser correctly.

STEP ONE:
Dispense a small amount of powder into a clean, dry cupped palm.

Lavender Mixing

STEP TWO:
Activate the powder cleanser formula with water while rubbing hands together gently, until you've created a light foam.

Lavender Applying

STEP THREE:
Apply hydrated powder cleanser to your face and cleanse as normal.

Lavender Rinsing

STEP FOUR:
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Use a damp towel to gently swipe away excess cleanser around nose, chin, and hairline. Follow with a hydrating toner or serum.

PRO TIP: Need to think outside the box to customize your cleanser? Adapt to the specific needs of your skin type when choosing what kind of water to add. Try swapping plain water for a micellar water, or even a pure floral hydrosol.
