Did you tune in to the 61st Annual Grammy Awards last night? If you missed out, you’ve likely been brought up to speed by now, thanks to a flood of news and Insta feeds of best dressed celebs and the night’s biggest moments. The top trending looks of the evening featured crystals, strappy sandals, and glowing skin (with K-Pop boy band BTS putting everyone to shame), and we’re HERE. FOR. IT.

But amidst an ocean of stars, we had our eyes locked on one extra special musical muse — a gal who never fails to hit the right notes in her film and music roles. We’re talking about Anna Kendrick, of course; the brilliant, multi-talented brunette with a pair of pipes that can only be rivaled by her acting chops (and razor sharp wit). We were lucky enough to have our Pitch Perfect dreams come true, when the bubbly beauty (and presenter) wore a full 100% PURE makeup look to the show!

Celeb makeup artist Vanessa Scali — who has worked with celebs like Christina Hendricks, America Ferrera, and Elizabeth Reaser — created Anna’s pretty-in-pink makeup look for the evening. To get the pitch-perfect (sorry, last time!) tones of mauve and pink for Anna’s look, she used 100% PURE fruit pigmented® makeup. Below you’ll find the exclusive, behind the scenes list of exact products and tips used for the Into the Woods star, and steps for achieving her 2019 Grammys red carpet look!

Anna was a vision in soft, posey pink — the actress was wrapped in a short, strapless couture dress by Ralph & Russo that was dripping with crystal embroidery. Gemstone and crystal embellishments were #everything on the runway and on stage at this year’s Grammys, and fittingly, Anna was rocking the trifecta of sparkle: Nikos Koulis jewels, Stuart Weitzman sandals, and the one and only 100% PURE Rose Gold Palette. “Grammys I’m coming for u,” Anna captioned right before the show, peering over her shoulder and serving luminous skin, voluminous hair, and smoldering eyes.

Scali says Anna's 100% PURE makeup look was “inspired by doe-eyed icons like Jane Birkin and Sharon Tate. The flirty mix of wide, lash-framed eyes with fresh, glowy goddess skin is a modern-mod, if you will.”

STEP 1: Luminous, satin skin

To ensure Anna’s glowing skin was on full display, stylist Craig Gangi lifted her hair into a high, wavy ponytail. Makeup artist Vanessa Scali started by priming her porcelain skin with a gentle, hydrating moisturizer and cooling, depuffing eye treatment.

Scali says of this makeup look, “The key to Anna’s dewy, goddess skin is in the balance of textures: sheer layering of creamy formulas, well placed shimmer, and clean shine control where needed.” After skin care, she added a mattifying primer to the T-zone to ensure makeup stayed in place all evening (and at the after parties, too).

For a flawless, satin finish with hints of dewy glow to amplify healthy and hydrated skin, Scali reached for our Full Coverage Water Foundation in Neutral 1.0. The hydrating aloe juice base with additions of green tea and coffee bean kept Anna’s skin supple and smooth all night long, while controlling oil and shine. Applying this foundation with a damp makeup sponge will ensure a totally seamless, lightweight finish while maintaining buildable full coverage.

She finished with a light application of brightening, super fruit-infused Long Last Concealer in Alpine Rose “under the eyes and on the inner hollow (on the nose) just beside the inner corner of the eyes.”

STEP 2: Pink, glowing cheeks

Scali used one of our founder Susie Wang’s favorite products to get a natural flush on Anna’s cheeks: the multi-tasking Lip & Cheek Tint in Shimmery Strawberry. She used fingers to blend for a creamy, satin finish that makes skin look naturally flushed with a healthy glow.

Next, with only the tip of her ring finger, makeup artist Vanessa Scali dabbed on our Luminating Crème in Starlight for a “natural lit-from-within radiance. I highlighted the peak points of the face: brow bones, cheekbones, the bridge if the nose, and added a subtle whisper to cupids bow of the lips for a lovely pout.” She also advises that applying a liquid highlighter with fingers, instead of a brush, also allows the product to warm and blend more seamlessly into skin — a pro tip we’ll be jotting down IRL!

To add dimension and warmth to Anna’s porcelain skin, Scali finished her cheeks with a light dusting of Cocoa Pigmented Bronzer in warm, milk chocolate toned shade Cocoa Gem (also infused with warm, softly shimmery mineral mica) to temples, across the hairlines, under the jaw, and under cheekbones. Lightly buff onto skin with a kabuki brush to apply for a more natural finish!

STEP 3: Soft brows

To keep Anna’s brows soft and subtle, Scali doubled up on 100% PURE tea and cocoa pigmented brow products. She started by elongating the ends with an fine, angled brush and our Long Last Brows pomade, then finished by brushing and lightly thickening them with the Green Tea Fiber Brow Builder tinted gel.

STEP 4: Metallic n’ mauve lids

The color scheme for Anna Kendrick’s Grammys eye makeup was designed to compliment her dusty pink dress, cool porcelain skin, and dark blue eyes.

For the base of Anna Kendrick’s Grammys eye makeup look, bronze metallic Luster of the Rose Gold Palette was applied all over the lid. The dusty plum hue of our new Fruit Pigmented® Mink eye shadow was layered over, then blended into the crease and wrapped beneath the bottom lashes (use a smudger brush for a clean lash line application). “The color enhances the blue in Anna’s eyes and gives the eyes a soft, sultry glow.”

STEP 5: Mod-lined eyes

To keep with her vision of Anna as a 60’s mod-goddess, black eyeliner was Scali’s obvious next step for this Grammys look. Our Creamy Long Last Liner in Blackest was “drawn tight to the lashline, and extended out in a kitten flick at the outer corners – this elongates the eye,” she advised. Vanessa also used an angled brush (you can clean, then use the same one from your brows) to smudge a little under Anna’s bottom lashes to frame her beautiful blue eyes.

The finishing touch? Mascara, obvi — a generous coat or two of our Ultra Lengthening Mascara in deep onyx Black Tea, to be exact.

STEP 6: Satin, dusty pink lips

What puts the finishing touch on a simply gorgeous makeup look (on a simply gorgeous girl)? The lipstick, of course — in this case, an anti-aging, ultra moisturizing lipstick made with pomegranate oil and subtly sweet fruit pigments. Scali chose the cool, deep pink of Buttercup, a semi-gloss lipstick.

To keep lipstick from smudging, and help it last all night long with minimal touch-ups, Vanessa Scali graced us all with another useful beauty tip: gently patting lipstick with oil-absorbing blotting paper after applying to lips!
