Take a second, take a breath – you’re in the home stretch of 2019, and even more special, the last few days of the decade. You made it, Queen! Whether you like to make resolutions or prefer to be surprised by what each year holds, give yourself a few moments of joy and pride and celebrate all that you’ve accomplished the past 10 years.

Believe it or not, some of us actually look forward to making resolutions for the new year (*cough* guilty)! We get excited to set goals and imagine the path we’ll take getting there. So why not start this new decade off with a fresh mindset and a clean slate?

Here are some approachable, accomplishable New Year resolution ideas to give yourself for health, growth, and happiness in 2020.

Resolution List ONE: Wellness

Wellness can be an incredibly broad term, but here we’re using it to mean anything that gives back to our growth – be it physical, financial, or mental. 2020 is your year and we’re ready to manifest. What’s something small you can do to better live your dreams? Check out these new year resolution ideas for the most important element in your life: personal wellness.

#1: Spend a solid 60 seconds each day looking at yourself in the mirror.
This one sounds weird but hear us out. We’re often looking at ourselves for a reason – to put on makeup, to adjust our clothing, or to hunt down imperfections. But what if we looked at ourselves simply because we’re stunning, amazing creatures that deserve physical appreciation? It’s more than OK to admire yourself, and more than OK to do it on purpose.

#2: Make a list of people in your life that love and support you.
The list can be as long, or as short and sweet as you want. Keep it somewhere special, like a planner or wallet, and when you’re having an especially stressful moment, pull it out and reread it. You may need to call a friend, or you may just need a little positive pick-me-up.

#3: Are you making money moves?
Saving, investing and even proper spending is always a huge focus, even more so as we go into a new year. Set your financial goals and see how those align with your lifestyle goals. Got a never-ending case of wanderlust? How can you side hustle put in #werk for your travel obsession? Next year we’re cutting back on ordering in, transferring our largest credit debt to our lowest interest cards, and limiting our impulse buys to multi-functional products.

#4: What ways can you give back?
For some of us, budgets are type and donating to charity isn’t an option, but we can always give our time and experience to worthy causes. Even if it’s just once every few months, make time to volunteer for a local organization that inspires you, or supports causes you are passionate about. Some ideas include your local SPCA, Big Brothers & Sisters, or even shelters for those that are displaced or abuse survivors.

#5: Dun-dun-dun – the inevitable “get fit” resolution
It looms over all of us as the new year begins, but let’s try the little things approach. Sometimes we fail to get fit because we try to do too much at once. Start with little things: parking further away from the front door, taking the stairs, making a second trip instead of hauling everything in one go. Those little healthy choices add up and all of a sudden, you’re living life as a healthier you.

#6: Try something new on a regular basis
The best growth happens right beyond our comfort zone, as they say. Maybe there’s a hip-hop dance class at the gym you’ve secretly wanted to try, or a dinner recipe that’s always seemed too difficult. When we try new things, we learn more about ourselves and even if we don’t *quite* succeed, we’ll have fun trying.

Resolution List TWO: Beauty

We saved our favorite category for last, and we’ve got some great ideas that we know you’ll love. What part of your beauty routine failed to excite you in 2019? Are there products that have been on your wishlist forever that you’re still holding off on? Where can you be more mindful or green?

Entering a new decade is like a new lease on life – don’t be afraid to shake things up. These are our new year resolution ideas for your beauty cabinet!

#1: Take better care of your skin!
This is something that is a recurring New Year resolution idea, that doesn’t always get checked off. Even if it’s finding an hour each month for a deep rejuvenating facial, or something as small as spending an extra 30 seconds each day to reapply sunscreen, show your skin some love. You’ll be repaid down the road!

#2: A big focus for us – and of course, the planet – is packaging
How can we waste less and want not? By investing in refillable products, reusing some of our existing packaging, and repurposing what we’ve been neglecting. Take for example our Matcha Oat Milk Nourishing Mask. Once you’ve finished every crumb of this brightening, scrubby little treat, reuse the glass jar for a mask DIY or try it as a travel container for another beauty item.

#3: Speaking of DIYs, why not try more of those on for size?
There’s no better way to keep your beauty clean than by making the product yourself. We’re not ashamed to admit that we’re addicted to face mask DIYs. They are usually quick, use simple ingredients that you can find in your kitchen and they’re always a great girls’ night activity.

#4: Ditch non-sustainable makeup wipes
Did you know that wipes – makeup wipes specifically – have a huge negative impact on the environment? Many of us reach for makeup wipes as the first step in our beauty routine, but what if you could skip that and improve your environmental impact? Instead of relying on wipes, we’re reaching for powerful natural facial cleansers that can do the double duty of removing our makeup while cleansing our faces.

Try this instead: Rose Micellar Cleansing Water. Gentle for sensitive skin, but purifying with rose water and fresh lemon, this cleanser sweeps it all off the surface and gets what’s trapped in your pores, too.

Or this: Blood Orange Cleansing Balm. Heavy duty for those full glam nights (or days), treat your skin to lots of restoring vitamin E with avocado, olive and coconut oils.

#5: Learn how to read ingredient labels Last but not least, we’re tackling mystery ingredients in beauty products. Do you know how to read an ingredient label? Usually loaded with complicated chemical terms, we’ve hit the decode button on beauty labels with apps and websites like ThinkDirty and Skincarisma. Easy to use, these services make stocking our beauty arsenals way easier.
